Deep Impact spacecraft zips past Earth (AP)

AP – A comet-busting NASA spacecraft zipped past Earth on Monday on its way to rendezvous with another comet in an extended mission that will also see it hunt for Earth-sized planets around a cluster of stars. The Deep Impact probe made the first of three flybys designed to use the planet’s gravity to hurtle the spacecraft toward comet Hartley 2 for a 2010 meeting.

NASA gives glimpse of air safety survey (AP)

AP – NASA grudgingly released some results Monday from an $11.3 million federal air safety study it previously withheld from the public over concerns it would upset travelers and hurt airline profits. The data reflects hundreds of cases where pilots flew too close to other planes, plunged from altitude or landed at airports without clearance.

How to convert to digital TV (AP)

AP – Beginning Feb. 18, 2009, television stations will stop broadcasting analog signals. An older, non-digital television without cable or satellite service will need a special converter box to receive a picture.
